Papaya reduces cadmium-induced brain damage

Papaya reduces cadmium-induced brain damage

( Natural News ) A study published in the European Journal of Medicinal Plants recently concluded that papayas may be a delicious and natural way to prevent brain damage caused by cadmium toxicity. Cadmium is a known carcinogen and neurotoxin. In point of fact, this specific heavy metal is notorious for intensifying oxidative damage in the nervous system, thereby increasing one’s risk of various diseases and illnesses, particularly those related to the brain. Thirty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into six groups of five animals each. All groups were treated intraperitoneally with a single dose of 3.5 mg/kg body weight of cadmium sulfate. Two of the six groups were treated with high and low doses of papaya extract at 250 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg body weight respectively for four weeks. Results showed that malondialdehyde (MDA) levels decreased in groups that received the papaya extract. MDA is an organic compound and is used as a marker for oxidative stress. Further, the papaya-treated groups showed an increased production in various compounds related to detoxification. The papaya extract was also observed to increase the levels of various antioxidants that acted to strengthen the immune system as the bodies of the rats began their detoxification process. It was concluded that papaya displays excellent antioxidant and detoxification properties. These prove to be advantageous for anyone who may be at risk of a cadmium-induced brain disease. Do you use Kleenex tissues? Top seller now guilty of adding skin-corrosive detergent Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

( Natural News ) In America, there is always some toxic medicine for every ailment that can “help” things get worse. The flu shot can assist you in getting a worse case of the flu the following year. Children’s cough syrup often contains toxic food coloring and aspartame – one of the world’s most dangerous food additives ever. Chemotherapy has been proven capable of creating new cancers in other parts of the body. Antibiotics wipe out good bacteria as well as the bad, enabling viruses and superbugs to devastate already sick humans who are prescribed this nearly useless “medicine.” Now, a certain brand of tissues were found to contain a toxic ingredient used as an engine de-greaser and industrial-strength detergent that not only irritates sensitive membranes it touches, but can also cause skin corrosion, eye health issues, and disrupt hormone balance with long-term usage. Imagine having a head cold or allergies, only to find out blowing your nose into Kleenex makes things horribly worse. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) determined toxic at one percent, now loaded into Kleenex tissues at more than two percent Did you know that the International Journal of Toxicology published a safety assessment of SLS and outright tells the public not to use any products that contain more than one percent SLS for a prolonged period of time? Kleenex tissues now contain more than two percent and it’s shown right on the label on the boxes. Research reveals SLS can penetrate the skin easily, thus being absorbed into the bloodstream, and then building up dangerous residual levels in the lungs, liver, heart and brain. Teen Vogue magazine now calling for abortion clinics on college campuses; celebrates abortion and encourages youth to pursue them en masse

( Natural News ) In the Continental United States, you need to be 21 years old before you can legally drink alcohol. That’s because it is a recognized fact that young people are prone to impulsive, reckless behavior, which means that if they drink, they’re likely to get drunk, and highly likely to end up in sometimes fatal vehicular accidents. The fact is, teens are at an incredibly difficult age where they are neither children nor adults. Though they may look and sound like mature grownups, the simple fact is that they are not, and they are prone to making reckless and even dangerous decisions. Any publication that has teenagers as their target audience, therefore, needs to be incredibly mindful of the messages they send to this vulnerable and impressionable group. Apparently, the teen-focused glamour magazine Teen Vogue doesn’t see it that way . Instead of sticking to issues like young love and acne, this super liberal magazine recently published an article glorifying abortion, filled with feel-good stories about young girls “freed” by their ability to murder an innocent child. The article also bemoaned the fact that college students have to travel off campus to get an abortion – apparently, taking a life should take as little of your time as possible – and pushed for college campuses to provide medical abortion services. It also questioned “restrictions like parental consent laws,” which apparently make it even more inconvenient for teenage girls to deal with the consequences and responsibilities that come with being sexually active. The Yogi Masters Were Right… Meditation Sharpens the Mind

The Yogi Masters Were Right… Meditation Sharpens the Mind

A new study shows that the ancient yogi masters and Buddhists were right… Meditation makes your brain sharper. And researchers at Trinity College in Dublin have discovered how it works.1 There are different kinds of meditation. Types that focus on breathing have long been known to have particular benefits, such as better ability to focus, and a more positive state of mind. A reduced tendency to emotional reactions is another plus. Science was at a loss to explain these apparent benefits… Until now. The brain contains a chemical messenger called noradrenaline. It is a neurotransmitter that is released when we are feeling challenged, curious or emotional. At certain levels noradrenaline creates new brain connections. The new research shows for the first time that the way we breathe directly affects our levels of noradrenaline. This is apparently why the sort of controlled breathing practiced in meditation and yoga can enhance brain health and mood. The study was conducted at Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience and the Global Brain Health Institute at Trinity. Participants were given a task that demanded their attention. The subjects who focused best were found to have better breathing patterns that synchronized with their work. Researcher Michael Melnychuk was lead author of the study. He described noradrenaline as the brain’s “all-purpose action system.” When we feel stressed, we produce excess noradrenaline and can’t focus. When we feel sluggish, we “produce too little…and can’t focus,” he said. But there is a happy medium of noradrenaline “in which our emotions, thinking, and memory are much clearer.” This is what meditation and yogic breathing seem to attain. Supercharge Your Brain with Mindfulness Meditation Here’s an easy breathing-based meditation method…2 Sit comfortably in any quiet place and focus on your breathing. When your attention wanders, return. Find a seat. Sit on […]

Family focuses on awareness after daughter’s death from brain aneurysm

Family focuses on awareness after daughter's death from brain aneurysm

As family and friends of Austen Dunn work to increase awareness of the medical condition that unexpectedly took her young life two years ago, they’re comforted by others’ memories of her. The guestbook of her online obituary is filled with descriptions of the 23-year-old who graduated from the College of William & Mary in 2015. Melanie Bell called her a “bright and shining star,” and Kemp Pettyjohn said she was “one of the most kindhearted individuals” he’d ever met. Catherine Altman described Austen as “one of those students a teacher never forgets,” and Lisa Diskin said “the mark she made on humanity was amazing and will live on in those she loved.” The comments offer consolation to her parents, Gary and Stacy Horner–Dunn, and her brother, Rory, who live in Fredericksburg. But they also underscore the loss. Austen seemed completely fine, exercising daily and heating healthy foods. “She was just a really great kid,” said her father, barely able to get the words out. “That’s the hard thing.” It’s also the reason they’ve organized an event to raise money for research of brain aneurysms, a condition caused by a weakened wall of a blood vessel inside the brain. Blood bulges in a vessel, producing what looks like a berry on a stem. There typically aren’t any symptoms until the aneurysm ruptures, which can be fatal in four out of 10 cases, according to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. More than half of those who survive will be left with disabilities. The Dunns were too distraught last September, on the first anniversary of their daughter’s death, to organize a local walk, but they raised $3,500 for a similar event in Richmond. This year, they decided to rally the many friends and co-workers who’ve supported them to create “Austen’s Communitas 5k Walk” […]

Why trusting your gut is essential to your survival

Why trusting your gut is essential to your survival

( Natural News ) Have you ever had a certain “feeling” about something – a “hunch” that something’s wrong, or that you just “know” that what you’re about to do is a good idea? This perceptive insight is called by many names, such as gut instinct, intuition, and “sixth sense.” (h/t to PreppersWill.com . ) Gut instinct may refer to a deeper level of consciousness, which is an essential tool in basic everyday life scenarios, but may be particularly useful in off-grid or survival situations. However, unless you know how to recognize and listen to your intuitive sense, you may completely miss or outright ignore your gut instincts. Intuition is a sort of “knowing” – an ability to acquire knowledge without reason or any rational processing, which allows a person to have a sense of something that may not be immediately evident. It is a phenomenon of the human mind. Your so-called sixth sense may present itself in various scenarios; whether you have a feeling of certainty that something good will come out of a particular decision or that something bad is about to happen. Types of intuition Some animals have claws, talons, tusks, horns, antlers, and what-have-you as a means to defend themselves. Human beings, on the other hand, have their remarkable brains for this purpose. Intuition is a prediction of the outcome of a situation, such as steering clear of a suspicious person because your mind predicts that something bad may happen to you if you don’t. Numerous scenarios may trigger your intuitive sense. The following is a non-comprehensive list of the types of intuition. 14 Effective Ways for Entrepreneurs to Boost Their Energy Throughout the Day

14 Effective Ways for Entrepreneurs to Boost Their Energy Throughout the Day

The trick to succeeding is working an exhaustive amount but never allowing yourself to become exhausted. Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. The road to success is paved with full days, heavy workloads and a 24/7 schedule. An entrepreneur’s life can be exhausting, and yet your overall success hinges on your ability to push through and keep at it, day in and day out. Maintaining your energy over the long-haul is key, but everyone gets run down. Whether you’re feeling in a slump or just need a pick-me-up, here are 14 effective ways you can rev up your engines and keep hitting your stride. 1. Control your stress. Stress can create overwhelming feelings of anxiety, worry and tension, all of which take up huge amounts of energy and leave you feeling zapped and uninspired. It’s important that you find healthy ways to deal with stress, and also to recognize what may be setting you off, so you can find ways to manage your stress. Try keeping a stress diary where you can record information about what is stressing you out and why. You can use a template to make it easier to make regular entries, throughout your day or week, so you can see if there are patterns when you feel particularly overwhelmed and then find ways to better handled it. 2. Take a cold shower. Taking a warm, steamy shower is so relaxing, but first thing in the morning it can leave you feeling drowsy — not a good way to start a high-energy day. To help you get your day going, try turning the knob towards cold — or as lukewarm as you can stand — for the last 30 seconds . Doing so can help improve circulation and stimulate your nervous system, which produces […]

No need for drugs: Parent education proven an effective solution for many ADHD challenges

( Natural News ) Evidence-based parent-teacher-children training programs have recently been proven to be effective not only in preventing child delinquency in later years but in reducing the symptoms of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among three to eight-year-olds. Researchers at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute believe that their new study could help parents foster young children to develop more favorably during their primary school years. More importantly, by lessening ADHD outcomes , children with the disorder can develop better social skills and interaction methods towards their peers. As associate director of research, Desiree W. Murray, explained on Science Daily : “ADHD in preschoolers can bring conflict with family members, and it carries elevated risk of physical injuries and suspension or expulsion from child care settings. Negative trajectories over time can include the development of other psychiatric disorders and difficulties with social adjustment.” Murray also noted that children with ADHD tend to have difficulties academically and have a higher likelihood of dropping out of high school. It is this last relationship that caused researchers to wonder if treating childhood delinquency could also improve ADHD symptoms. In order to test this theory, however, Murray and her team needed to find an appropriate training program. They were able to find 258 such methodologies but narrowed these down to 11 studies that met their stringent criteria. These studies were compared to parent reports over a determined time period. The team found that among all their selected training programs, the Incredible Years® Basic Parent Program proved to be the most effective in easing ADHD symptoms. 100% organic essential oil sets now available for your home and personal care, including Rosemary, Oregano, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Clary Sage and more, all 100% organic and laboratory tested for safety. 12 Therapeutic Houseplants That Can Boost Your Physical Health, Emotional Well-Being—And Even Your Brain Power

12 Therapeutic Houseplants That Can Boost Your Physical Health, Emotional Well-Being—And Even Your Brain Power A growing body of research proves that simply being around nature can improve human health and happiness. A month-long 2016 study conducted in the United Kingdom by the University of Derby and the Wildlife Trusts found that connecting to nature resulted in a “ scientifically significant increase” in health and happiness , the BBC reports. “Nature isn’t a miracle cure for diseases,” says Lucy McRobert, Nature Matters campaigns manager for the Wildlife Trusts. “But by interacting with it, spending time in it, experiencing it and appreciating it we can reap the benefits of feeling happier and healthier as a result.” But you don’t necessarily need to go outdoors to connect with nature: houseplants can help you can bring nature indoors. Keeping plants at home or at work is a simple and effective way to improve your personal environment. Many plants are so easy to maintain that they make great gifts, even for those who don’t have green thumbs. One area in which we can all probably use a little boost is brain power, and in this regard, plants can be powerful stimulants. “Studies show that tasks performed while under the calming influence of nature are performed better and with greater accuracy, yielding a higher quality result,” writes Charlie Hall, Ellison Chair in International Floriculture at Texas A&M University. “Keeping ornamental plants in the home and in the workplace increases memory retention and concentration,” he adds. “The calming influence of natural environments is conducive to positive work environments by increasing a person’s ability to concentrate on the task at hand.” Flowers, in particular, can generate a feeling of happiness, triggering the release of dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin —neurotransmitters that are connected to the brain’s systems […]

Study shows aroma of black tea can help reduce stress levels

( Natural News ) Numerous aromatic substances can help lower stress levels. According to a study published in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology , inhaling the aroma of black tea is an effective stress-reliever . Data from a Japanese study has revealed that “[inhaling] the aroma of black tea may help to lower stress levels after a stressful task and improve mood prior to experiencing mental stress.” The researchers involved in the study set out to discover if certain food flavor components can affect stress-induced negative brain functions. The research team, which consisted of scientists from Chubu University , Mitsui Norin Co., Ltd. , Tokai University , and the University of Shizuoka , analyzed the alleviating effects of two kinds of black tea aromas (Assam and Darjeeling tea) on physical and psychological stress. Black tea contains high concentration of anti-stress components For the study, the researchers worked with 18 healthy volunteers (13 females and five males). The participants, who were aged 20 to 21 years old, were instructed to only consume water at least three hours before each trial began. The Uchida-Kraepelin test, a psycho-diagnostic test that includes arithmetic tasks which must be solved in under 30 minutes, was used to induce stress in the participants. The test was split into two 15-minute sessions. Between the sessions, the volunteers had one minute to either inhale the aroma of black tea or be exposed to warm water (as a control). The salivary chromogranin-A (CgA) levels was used as a stress marker to analyze the effect of the inhalation of the black tea aroma in the participants. CgA is an acidic protein produced in response to stress. 100% organic essential oil sets now available for your home and personal care, including Rosemary, Oregano, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Clary Sage and more, all […]

Safety alert: Experts recommend disabling many of your new car’s features due to risks of driver distraction

( Natural News ) Many vehicles come with infotainment systems meant to make the task of driving that much easier. Researchers from the University of Utah have found these features to be anything but helpful, however. According to the researchers, these infotainment systems place high demands for the drivers’ attention that make them distractions and, as such, should be disabled while vehicles are in motion . They came to this conclusion after reviewing the infotainment systems of over 30 different vehicles manufactured in 2017 . The participants they had recruited were then asked to make calls, send text messages, tune the radio, or program the navigation system while in the middle of driving. All of the aforementioned tasks made use of the vehicles’ interactive technologies. To determine how distracting each task was, the team developed a rating scale ranging from low (what amounted to listening to the radio) to very high demand (the equivalent of balancing a checkbook on your head in the middle of driving). The researchers discovered that programming the navigation system was the most distracting task, as it took the drivers an average of 40 seconds to complete. Text messaging was found to be the second most distracting task. Making calls and tuning the radio were the easiest to perform and were deemed low-demand tasks. By contrast, the voice-based and touch-screen technologies took the drivers’ mind, hands, and eyes off the road for more than 24 seconds. “This is troublesome because motorists may assume that features that are enabled when they are driving are safe and easy to use,” said psychology professor and lead study author David L. Strayer. (Related: Safety not a major concern as House gives self driving car bill the fast lane .) Get more news like this without being censored : Get […]

Resveratrol Good for Memory and Brain Function

Resveratrol Good for Memory and Brain Function

Individuals who want to improve their brain health and function may take into account the use of this formula. ( Newswire.net — September 14, 2018) Orlando, FL — Maintaining brain health and function makes daily life easy and productive. To achieve this, it is important to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle. It is similarly important to consider the use of natural brain health enhancing ingredients. Researchers found resveratrol is good for memory and brain function. This powerful antioxidant can be found in food sources but can also be taken through supplementation. This plant compound acts like flavonoids, and can be found in dark chocolate, grapes, red wine, and peanuts. Resveratrol has long been gaining attention due to its positive effects on longevity. It has been a subject of clinical trials and research studies due to its healing benefits. In a study conducted in Germany, it was found that resveratrol was able to improve memory and brain function among elderly subjects. According to researchers, it works in activating sirtuin. This enzyme plays a significant role in regulating cellular life spans. It also promotes enhanced insulin sensitivity, which is also believed to help extend lifespan. In 2010, a clinical study was conducted to see the benefits of this antioxidant on brain health. The researchers treated the human subjects with 250 or 500 mg of resveratrol. It was found that this natural treatment enhanced blood flow to the brain. German researchers at the NeuroCure Cluster of Excellence and the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences conducted a study. They aimed at knowing what the effects of resveratrol are on brain function and memory in overweight but healthy older adults. It was found that the use of resveratrol led to a significant impact on the ability of the subjects […]

7 Brain-boosting Supplements You Should Know About

7 Brain-boosting Supplements You Should Know About

People with average mental abilities can benefit from the use of brain-boosting supplements. These supplements work quite similar to how physical endurance-boosting supplements work, just that it enhances the power of the brain and the overall mental sharpness. Also known as nootropics, these are natural supplements that enhance the brain’s functionality. These drugs are known to boost alertness, creativity, motivation and cognitive ability. Age-related decline of the brain is also taken care of by certain brain-boosting supplements. Below is the list of the top 7 brain-boosting supplements: 7 brain-boosting supplements 1. Acetyl-L-Carnitine One of the amino acids that are produced naturally by the human body is acetyl-L-carnitine. This plays a particular role in energy production and your overall metabolism. People taking these supplements have shown to possess more alertness. Supplements of acetyl-L-carnitine also improve memory and reduce age-related memory loss. Animal studies done for these supplements show that it enables the enhancement of learning capacity and prevents age-related decline of the brain’s functionality. Studies that involved humans showed similar effects where age-related decline of the brain’s functionality was reduced due to the effect of these supplements. People with Alzheimer’s might therefore find it useful. 2. Citicholine This supplement can be termed as a brain protector. This is a compound that is naturally found in the cells of our body. Considered one of the best brain boosters, citicholine is known to promote the building of brain cell membranes. Blood flow to the brain is improved by this compound. It also aids the ability of the brain to keep changing throughout one’s life. It fires up the mitochondria and in turn increases the brain’s energy. This compound reduces the effects caused due to free radical damage (the cause behind brain ageing). Two important neurotransmitters are dopamine and acetylcholine. This compound can […]

Fermented Blueberries May Restore Cognitive Function In Amnesia

Fermented Blueberries May Restore Cognitive Function In Amnesia

Blueberry vinegar is suggested by researchers from Konkuk University to help boost memory and restore cognitive function of people with dementia, as published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Whether vinegar made from blueberries might help improve cognitive function and stop cognitive deterioration was explored in the study by administering blueberry vinegar to mice with induced amnesia for seven days, then behavioral assessment was performed using behavior tests. Findings show that blueberry vinegar decreases breakdown of acetylcholine and increases levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor proteins that plays a role in maintenance and production of healthy nerve cells. This conclusion was arrived at after conducting in vivo studies to evaluate mice performance in mazes and an avoidance test in which the mice would receive low intensity shocks in one of two chambers. When fed blueberry vinegar the animal showed better performance in both tests, suggesting that blueberry vinegar boosted short term memory. According to the researchers blueberry vinegar has potential to help treat amnesia and cognitive deterioration among older populations. This study was built on past studies showing relationships of cognitive function and signaling compound acetylcholine which is a neurotransmitter responsible for thinking, focus, concentration, and memory; that can be obtained by consuming dietary sources of choline such as animal proteins, seafood, dairy, eggs, soybeans, seeds, and nuts. Studies have shown brains of people with Alzheimer’s disease have lower levels of acetylcholine and its receptors. Stopping acetylcholine receptors has been shown to interrupt memory and learning. Drugs are available to help prevent breakdown of acetylcholine to fight dementia, but they are deemed unsafe as the only last within the body for a short amount of time and can be harmful to the liver. Studies have suggested natural extracts can enhance cognitive function, and fermenting natural extracts can […]

Eating too much processed sugar increases your risk of Alzheimer’s

Eating too much processed sugar increases your risk of Alzheimer’s

( Natural News ) Research has found that a high intake of processed sugar can raise the risk of Alzheimer’s disease . The study, published in the journal Scientific Reports , revealed that high sugar levels caused by excessive consumption of processed sugars can damage an essential enzyme called macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), which is associated with inflammation in the initial stages of Alzheimer’s disease. According to research, people with diabetes are more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease, which develops as a result of the buildup of abnormal proteins that form plaque and clog the parts of the brain. In turn, these clogs continuously damage the brain, leading to serious cognitive problems. However, although previous research discovered that cellular proteins are harmed by glucose and its products through glycation, the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and sugar is not yet completely understood. Thus, researchers from the University of Bath and Wolfson Centre for Age-Related Diseases, King’s College London , both in the U.K., looked at the brain samples of people with and without Alzheimer’s disease by using a method that helps identify the process of glycation. Results revealed that during the initial stages of Alzheimer’s disease, glycation damages the MIF enzyme, which is essential in regulating insulin levels and the immune response. MIF also plays a role in the reaction of glial brain cells to the accumulation of abnormal proteins in the brain in Alzheimer’s disease. thereby, the researchers suspect that the decrease and prevention of MIF activity due to glycation could be the beginning of the progression of the disease. It also seems that glycation of these enzymes increases as Alzheimer’s advances.
